American entrepreneur, hedge fund manager, libertarian and venture capitalist, Peter Andreas Thiel, has an estimated net worht of $2.2 billion as of March 2015, according to Forbes list of billionaires.

Thiel cofounded PayPal in 1998, sold it to Ebay in 2002 for $1.5 billion, personally netting $60 million. Invested $500,000 in Facebook in 2004. This stake now makes up the bulk of his net worth. He opened hedge fund Clarium Capital in New York in 2005 but recently moved operations back to California reportedly because the firm was facing losses. The firm’s assets, once as high as $6 billion in mid-2008, have fallen to just $460 million (a quarter of that is Thiel’s money). He’s now seeking to lease his Bryant Park space. Thiel was born 1967;  in Frankfurt am Main, West Germany, and raised in Foster City, California, United States.
